“We hired Caldwell & Johnson (C&J) for Dave’s knowledge of green technology. Before the project began Dave showed us other houses, he had built using some of this technology. In the last stages of design, we decided to use photovoltaic technology. C&J installed solar shingles on the south facing roof that are producing more kilowatts than we are consuming. The photovoltaics coupled with other building techniques C&J uses to produce energy efficient homes (e.g., foam insulation) earned us a Home Energy Rating Certificate with 5 stars plus rating. Dave followed through to get the house tested for its energy efficiency and we received certificates with the results. C&J was also top rate in terms of designing the interior details of the house. For example, board and batten was installed on the walls of the open staircase, craftsman style trim on all windows including some open transoms, and help when choosing finishes (e.g., tile).
